Types of tiles

Natural tiles are often used to build the roof of wooden houses made of cedar or larch. Such tiles are equipped with two vertical and two horizontal locks (to choose from), which ensures a low possibility of cracking. Separate parts of such a natural roof can move freely, because it is attached to the crate with only one edge. Such a structure determines the fact that the natural roof will not suffer from the settlement of the building, wind or other external and internal influences. The main advantages of a tiled roof include its fire resistance, durability and aesthetic appearance. Also, the maintenance of a natural roof will not be a problem, it will not need to be painted or repaired in any way. And even an inexperienced builder can install a tiled roof.

Ceramic tiles

It is made from clay mass, which is given a certain shape, and then dried and fired. Clay from the secondary tape layer is used as the material. It contains a large amount of iron oxides. Therefore, after firing, which occurs at a temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius, natural tiles become red-brown in color. In order to give the tile shine and color, it is covered with a special glaze layer during firing.

There are several types of ordinary natural tiles: flat and slotted tape, slotted stamped, one- and two-wave, grooved, and so on. Natural tiles are distinguished by reliability, durability, fire resistance, strength, environmental friendliness and high sound insulation of the room. This tile will not rust. During the service of such a tile, you will spend a minimum of money to maintain it in good condition. Most often, natural roofing is maintained in excellent condition throughout the life of the house. In addition, natural tiles do not fade under the influence of the sun, so you do not have to worry about losing their original color.

Cement-sand tiles. It is made from a colored mortar mixture, which is pressed under high pressure. The following substances are used in the mixture: Portland cement, quartz sand, alkali-resistant pigment and water. The peculiarity of such a tile is its three-dimensional coloring, which will not suffer from the influence of sunlight or precipitation and will delight you with its beauty for many years. This type of tile is also called «concrete», its dimensions are always standard. Over the years, it becomes stronger, because Portland cement hardens under the influence of moisture. This feature is certainly one of the advantages of cement-sand tiles.

Soft tiles

This type of tile has several names: flexible, shingles, roofing tiles, shingles and shingles. All these words denote the following type of tiles: flat sheets 1×0.33 m, which have curly cuts along one edge.

The soft tile is made of the fiberglass impregnated with bitumen or felt. On this basis, two layers of oxidized bitumen are combined, to which various polymeric substances are added, which give this tile plasticity, strength and resistance to mechanical stress. From above, flexible tiles are covered with basalt granulate or mineral chips. It is they who change its color and save it from the effects of light and precipitation. The method of installation of such tiles determines its division into two types — self-adhesive and traditional. The first has an adhesive layer on the underside, and the second has silica sand, which prevents the tiles from sticking together during transport and storage. Soft tiles are attached to a solid crate, such as moisture-resistant plywood, OSB or tongue-and-groove edged board. It is distinguished by its lightness, because its weight is 4 times less than that of natural tiles. Soft tiles are used on the roofs of both wooden and stone houses, the slope of which is at least 1: 3.
